Who would have thought?

……….that something as lovely as this:

Rose quartz

…..would do this to my washing machine?!

My broken washing machine

It was one of those freakish accidents that just seem to happen. The crystal was on a shelf in the kitchen, minding it’s own business. My younger son was reaching up in to a nearby cupboard to get down a box of cereal for his breakfast.  SOMEHOW he must have knocked the crystal off of the shelf and sent it flying in the direction of the washing machine.  I still can’t quite work out how it flew with such a force to smash the glass though, as he was only stood approximately three feet away.

It will have to remain one of those little unsolved mysteries.  I’m just glad that the washing had (only five minutes before) finished it’s cycle, otherwise the kitchen would have been flooded with hot water aswell as the glass!

I do however, have the repair man calling today with a replacement door, so hopefully all will be peaceful and calm again (without anymore help from that beautiful ‘healing’ crystal :-)

Olympic torch

Does anybody else think that the Olympic torch looks likes it’s been made from sequin waste?

Little Chocolate house

I know that these type of houses are usually associated with Christmas, but I just couldn’t resist having a go at making one.

My little chocolate house

My little chocolate house

I’ve had the idea in my head since last Bank holiday Monday, when the ‘Really’ channel was showing back to back episodes of ‘Choccywoccydoodah’ for almost the whole day. On one of the shows, they were making these huge edible houses which looked absolutely amazing……

Obviously, making one as big as this would be out of the question. Mainly because it would take a VERY large amount of chocolate (as well as skill), but also it would all have to be eaten and I just wouldn’t be able to help myself! Instead, I thought I’d look for some instructions on how to make a much smaller version to satisfy my creative craving. I found a series of three short videos on ‘Youtube’ (I have added the links below), which shows you how to make one using bars of chocolate and a few other bits and bobs.

Chocolate house tutorial:

Part 1       Part 2      Part 3

I made mine by using six (100g) bars of Morrisons own brand milk chocolate (which cost around 35p per bar) and a six pack of Milky bars (I used three for the door and windows, then melted the rest for the snow on the roof). The roof tiles are made from ‘Rainbow buttons’ (same as ‘Jazzies’) which I also bought from Morrisons. The sweets are around 35p per bag or three bags for a pound. The rest of the house is decorated with a handful of Smarties and dolly mixtures and a sprinkling of sugar strands on the roof.  I know that mine doesn’t look quite as neat as the ones in the tutorial video’s but it IS only my first attempt!

The house is actually a present for my Mum for her birthday, so I hope she likes it!  When it’s all dry, I shall put it in a cellophane bag and tie it up with a pretty ribbon :-) It’s only cost me around four pounds to make, so I might consider making some more as Christmas gifts too – maybe with the addition of some candy canes and edible glitter? It has taken a little bit of time to make, but I really enjoyed myself and would definitely recommend it if you like to get messy!
